WE INVESTED IN OUR MUSEUM

Starting in 2022, The Griffin Museum underwent a three year, $400,000 renovation to update the facility and enhance our patrons experience.

We updated the exterior with a new roof, paint and exterior lighting around the building and on the Griffin Rotary Terrace. We replaced our windows and insulated our storage spaces to make the building more energy efficient.

Our interiors were renovated to include a new resource & photobook library and create the Arthur Griffin Archive Resource Center. We installed new floors, and a catering kitchen to better serve our patrons for our events and updated bathrooms.

We aren’t done yet.

With these investments in our building and grounds, we are excited for what lies ahead. The Griffin Futures Fund has been established to support the new vision of the museum. The Fund will invest in our future exhibitions, programs and education and your financial gift secures the museum’s future.

We want to thank our generous patrons of the Griffin for their continuing financial support of the museum and its programs. We are grateful to Town of Winchester, the Winchester Cultural Council and Winchester Cultural District for their assistance with this project, along with The Mass Cultural Council and The Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism for their generous financial support. We are grateful to the Winchester Rotary and the Griffin Directors Circle and Griffin Museum Board of Directors for their donor gifts and contributions, supporting our vision for an inspired museum.

“The Griffin Museum is an indispensable community partner in Winchester. Every day, the Griffin brings the world to Winchester and our local merchants reap the benefits. The Griffin’s steadfast commitment to our students, local artists, cultural district, and nonprofits is second to none. Investing in the future of the Griffin only reaffirms Arthur Griffin’s passions for his community and for inspiring the next generation of photographers. Winchester is honored to be the home of this world-renowned museum."”

— Richard Mucci,  Chair of the Select Board - Town of Winchester, MA

“Thirty three years ago, my father established the Griffin Center for Photographic Art to celebrate photography in all its forms. He loved pushing the boundaries of what was possible with a photograph and with technology in his day. So many ways to capture an image, so different from when he started as a photographer, and now using technologies like cell phones and video to visualize our world. Today as we move to the next phase of the museum’s development, the museum is poised to showcase the newest creativity in the field of photography and visual imaging. I think he would be thrilled at where the institution and photography go from here.”

— Lee Griffin, Daughter of Arthur Griffin
